Research Question : Does the immigration of
Blacks from former slave holding states to Delaware Township in
Wyandotte County, Kansas after 1879 show an increase over the
immigration of Blacks from former slave holding states to Delaware
Township in Wyandotte County, Kansas before that date?
This research focus question is intended to give directions to your study of African American Immigration. At this point we are trying to develop a deep understanding of this immigration. In this guided research section we will use the research question above as an example to help you understand how to do historical research. You will also develop a deeper understanding of the Exoduster period and the movement of African Americans after the Civil War. It is from this understanding that additional questions will emerge and drive the research. We will be using actual census data from the Kansas Agricultural Census to try and find an answer to the research question above. As you work on this guided research project you will find that you can pose additional questions like the one above. Students are asked to use the form below to submit additional research questions that may be studied in the future. Please use this area to share research ideas and comments on others ideas. With this research question guiding your work, proceed to the background information in the guided research portion of the African American Immigration Project.
